About us

The Adelaide Festival of Arts is one of the world's great arts festivals. It has created a strong tradition of innovation since 1960, inspiring celebration and presenting diverse art from across Australia and around the world. Held in the warm South Australian autumn in every 'even' year, this is a large-scale multi-arts event of extraordinary richness and diversity.

Each Festival program includes opera, theatre, dance, classical and contemporary music, cabaret, new media events, Adelaide Writers' Week (the largest literary festival in the world), outdoor entertainment, visual arts exhibitions, master classes, forums, a late night club and much more.

The 2008 Festival will be staged from 29 February - 16 March.

The 2010 Festival will be staged from 26 February - 14 March.

Brett Sheehy

Artistic Driector

Brett Sheehy is one of Australia’s most accomplished and acclaimed directors, curators and producers, and has been Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival of Arts since March 2004.

Previously, he was Festival Director & Chief Executive of Sydney Festival (2002-2005), where he was also the Festival's Deputy Director (1995-2001).

Brett’s 2006 Adelaide Festival broke box office and attendance records for the Festival’s 46-year history, and the program met with enthusiastic acclaim from artistic, press and public circles, nationally and internationally. He grew the Festival’s interstate and overseas visitation from 16% of total attendances to 24%, and his program resulted in a significant financial surplus. In October 2007 Brett will launch his 2008 (and final) Adelaide Festival.
